Radio Directory

To enter the Radio Directory, hit the “Main menu” button in the upper left corner of the main Spider Player's window and select “Radio…” from the popup menu.

By default Spider Player will connect to the Shoutcast server and get the “Top 500” list of Internet streams.

To add a stream to the playlist, select it in the Radio Directory and press the “Add” button. If you want Spider Player to start playing a steam immediately, press the “Play” button.

If you want to get only streams of some particular genre, choose the desired genre in the “Quick genre” drop-down list.

For popular genres (like rock or pop) the list may be so long, it's difficult to find anything in it within reasonable amount of time. That's when the “Quick filter” box comes in handy. It searches as you type, narrowing down the closest match as you enter more information.

Search is another useful feature. For example, I want to find all radio stations that are playing Metallica - Nothing else matters right now. What I do is I enter the song's name “Nothing else matters” into the search box and hit the Enter key. And a second later I have a list of stations that are playing this particular song right now! You can use this method to search for artists, genres and stations as well.

You can sort search results by station name, genre name, bitrate, etc. by clicking the header of the corresponding column. To change the sorting direction from ascending/descending to the opposite, simply click the column's header again. If you don't like the current columns' order, you can rearrange the columns by clicking and dragging columns' headers.

If you are unsure what you would like to listen to, there is also an option to get a list of random stations. Just specify how many you would like to get and Spider Player will grab some for you =)

You can toggle between Shoutcast and Icecast radio directories by pressing the directory's logo button.

When switching to the Icecast radio directory, the whole list of all Icecast radio streams is downloaded. So there is only “Quick filter” option to search for streams.

That's it! Now you know how to use the Radio Directory :-D
